A great deal of undergraduate teaching at the University of Oxford is
done, not by college fellows or members of faculty, but by part-time
tutors, employed on a casual, termly basis.
This small army of part-time tutors comprises mainly graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
I became a part-time philosophy tutor at Oxford, for various colleges and for the Department for Continuing Education,
shortly before receiving my
doctorate there.
I have taught a variety of courses, both face-to-face and online; to the University's conventional
undergraduates and to its extra-mural students.
